It was 90° and humid today in New York City.
As I was getting myself prepared to venture out into the summer heat, making every effort to lighten my load and keep cool, I transferred ALL contents of my bifold wallet into my trusty card sleeve. That included some folded cash, Amex, Visa, M/C & Chase ATM cards, iced coffee reward card from Brooklyn Label, license and metro card. Feeling secure that I had EVERYTHING I needed in one pocket with no bulk or bulge, I headed off...
You too should enjoy this, one of life's simple pleasures and now a Summer Essential from M&U Co.
We built a custom bending rig for our money clips. Like any good tool, it's a pleasure to use and has already inspired some new product ideas. And on top of all that, it's a handsome object to have around. Check out the new Money Clips in our Hard Goods Collection.
We spent Friday at our tannery in Pennsylvania—Wickett & Craig—one of the last two vegetable tanneries in the country. Vegetable tanning is a much older and safer method than the more-common Chrome tanning, and it produces a harder-wearing product. We've worked with a wide variety of domestic and international tanneries, and we think these guys produce the finest leather we've seen. They've been in business for 150 years, so it's safe to say they know their way around a hide. See a few photos below.
A few shots behind the scenes at our new collection of leather goods being stitched by hands here in our Brooklyn workshop. We went with a hard-wearing waxed cord for durability, and a high stitch count for a more polished look. More shots of the edge finishing and conditioning process to come in the next few days.
The new site — which you are currently looking at — is alive! We've already received some great press (more on that soon) and we're seeing the first orders pour in. We're pushing ahead on new designs and product development, so expect some new releases as soon as next week. A couple studio shots below to whet your appetite (note Hunter's worn-in mahogany bifold).
We're working with a local metal worker (and good friend) on some new keyrings — paid him a visit this afternoon to see how things were coming. UPDATE: Key Rings are now available in the Hard Good Collection.
